How To Get Rid of Dark Spots or Patches On Face

How To Get Rid of Dark Spots or Patches On FaceBlack spots, dark patches and other marks on the face may be caused by many different factors, the most common one being prolonged exposure to the sun.

Cells in the skin known as melanocytes produce melanin, a compound responsible for giving skin its color. Melanin acts as a protective agent, preventing the ultraviolet rays of the sun from penetrating too deeply. Over a period of time, with prolonged exposure to the sun, high levels of melanin concentration can occur, leading to dark spots and patches on the skin. Other causes can include hormonal changes, stress, liver disease, pregnancy as also the process of ageing.

Homemade Remedies: (To Get Rid of Dark Spots or Patches On Face)

The best way to treat black spots on the face is to prevent them from forming in the first place. This can be accomplished by protecting you face from the sun by wearing a scarf or hat and applying sun screen prior to venturing out into the sun.

Sunscreen must be applied at least thirty minutes before going outdoors in order for it to take effect. It is advisable to use a sunscreen with an SPF or sun protection factor above 30.

A quick way to remove dark spots is to apply a mixture of tomato and lemon juice to the spots. Leave it on overnight before rinsing it off with warm water the next morning. After this, take some sugar granules and rub them over your skin in a circular manner. The sugar crystals will help to exfoliate your skin and improve blood circulation, improving the texture of your skin. You will need to be patient and continue this treatment for at least a couple of weeks before you can see any discernible results.

Try rubbing a cut raw potato on the dark spots or apply a face mask made from honey and grated potato. Leave it on for about half an hour before rinsing it off.

Make a paste from powdered sandalwood and rosewater and apply it to the spots on your face. You can also try a face pack made from dried powdered orange peels mixed with yogurt.

The juice of a red onion may also be used to get rid of dark spots on face. Dab a small amount of the juice on the spots using a cotton swab and then wash after 10 minutes.

Remember, these home remedies or other forms of alternative medicine may only help to lighten the color of the spots and not remove them. For more conventional therapies you should consult a dermatologist who may recommend a more conventional line of treatment. These treatment options may include medical ointments containing hydroquinone that will cause the spots to fade, or laser treatment that destroys the melanocytes and prevents the re-formation of the dark spots. Other techniques include cryotherapy and dermabrasion that destroy the pigmented skin. The new skin when it forms is devoid of the dark spots.

The last form of therapy, called the chemical peel. This method also uses the principle of skin destruction. In this method, the blemished skin burns off after applying an acid. Again, on healing, the skin is blemish-free.

As mentioned before, these treatments are only as effective as the amount of care you take to avoid exposure to the sun. Therefore, you need to cover up completely when you venture out in the sun and even on cloudy days, you should shield yourself from ultraviolet radiation.
