Home Remedies for Conditioning Dry Hairthumbnail

Some of the best conditioners can be found in Mother Nature. Unfortunately, conditioners for dry hair that contain products like bananas, avocados or olive oil can be expensive. Luckily, with a little bit of effort you can create your own at-home conditioners that are just as effective as the ones found in high-end stores.

Eggs:

Eggs
The essential fatty acids and vitamins found in egg yolks make eggs an excellent conditioner for dry hair. To use an egg as a conditioner, simply beat the egg together and add 1 tbsp. of water to the beaten egg. Apply the egg mixture to damp hair. Rub the egg mixture into your scalp with your fingertips. When you’ve used up the egg mixture, simply wash it out of your hair with cool water.

Mayonnaise:

Mayonnaise

Mayonnaise is another excellent deep-hair conditioner. Use the mayonnaise in place of your normal conditioner. Typically, about half a cup of mayonnaise is sufficient, although if you have longer hair then you should use more. Apply the mayonnaise exactly as you would a normal conditioner and leave in for about 15 minutes. For best results, cover your hair with a shower cap or cling wrap. When the 15 minutes is up, wash the mayonnaise out with shampoo.

Oil:

Oil

Oils are excellent for conditioning dry hair. If you have sweet almond oil at home, that works very well, but you can even use plain olive oil in your hair for a cheap hot oil treatment. Simply apply liberal amounts of olive oil to wet hair and wrap hair in a hot towel, a shower cap or cling wrap. Wrapping the hair helps to keep the heat in and allows the oil to penetrate the hair that much more. You can also intensify other at-home treatments such as eggs or honey by adding olive oil to the mixture.

Honey:

Honey

Honey is a humectant and so is excellent for moisturizing dry hair. To apply, simply mix in honey with your usual conditioner. To do this, pour the amount of conditioner you wish to use into your hand and then mix in about a tablespoon of honey. You will have to rub the mixture between your palms to emulsify the mixture. Then apply to your hair and leave in for 15 to 30 minutes and rinse out with lukewarm water. If you prefer, you could mix in equal parts honey with olive oil and apply it to your hair for 30 minutes instead.

Banana and Avocado:

Banana and Avocado:
Bananas are not only great conditioners but also add shine and body. Avocados are filled with oils perfect for conditioning hair. To mix up a banana/avocado treatment, mix together one banana with an avocado and a couple of tablespoons of olive oil. To make it easier to blend, choose bananas and avocado that are older and soft. Blend mixture until smooth and apply to hair after shampooing. Leave mixture in hair for 15 minutes and then rinse with lukewarm water.
